If you’d like to add a pompom. How to make Pompoms (here)
We’ve been making up a storm of pompoms and we knew they’ve be a fantastic accent on these pocket necklaces. We’ve had so much fun making these, that I’ve kept aside extra materials for visiting crafters or ever gifts for friends. These would make a great party craft or just cosy, creating times together.
We fit them with pint sized notebooks, but these could also contain toys or for bigger kids: phones or ipods (add a snap, perhaps?) Slip notebook inside and it’s ready to wear.
Let’s Create.
How to measure: Double up fabric to fit the notebooks, leaving about 1/2 inch along the edges;
plus fabric to create the top flap.
HOW-TO:
- Make pompom, click here for instructions.
- Cut out fabric. Any fabric will work but if you use felt, this will not unravel and no edging will be necessary.
- Diagram 1: Fold over top point and stitch closed. (This will be the overhanging flap.)
- Diagram 2: Using the excess yarn, thread it on a needle, bring yarn pieces through the fabric and tie on the inside of the flap.
- Diagram 3: One the pompom is secure and tied, snip the yarn and for reinforcement, sew for security.
- Diagram 4: Fold sides and sew sides.
- Now, punch a hole with a hole cutter or a sharp scissors into a spot about 1 inch from the top of the thread the cord or ribbon through this hole and tie. For reinforcement, sew for security. Repeat on both sides.
- Diagram 5: Slide in a notebook and the pocket necklace is complete.
- Enjoy!
