How to make Lavender Body Scrub or Lemon Sugar Scrub
I find the ingredients in scrubs to be just fascinating. These pure ingredients are often so simple and already in front of you; but, combined like this to create pure magic. Have you tried to do this yourself yet? One for you and one for a gift.
Did you know that epsom salt, is an incredible skin-care product and not something that your Great-Grandfather used. It is a natural mineral composed of magnesium sulfide, which easily absorbs into the skin. It naturally softens skin, sloughs away dead cells, reduces inflammation, and relaxes muscles. You can substitute flaked sea salt, which will cosmetically do a similar job, but which lacks the benefits of the magnesium sulphide.
Lavender is often used to sooth tension, relieve pain, disinfect the skin, enhance blood circulation and treat respiratory problems. I looked it up and the name, lavender, comes from the Latin name, Lavare, which means “to wash.”
– ¼ cup cold-pressed almond oil
– ¾ cup granulated sugar
– ¼ cup Epsom Salt (or sea or kosher salt, flaked)
– lavender essential oil
– Heat coconut oil over low heat for 5-10 mins, remove from heat & strain.
– While the oil is still warm, mix together almond oil & let sit until room temperature.
– Once room temperature, stir in granulated sugar and salt.
– Add in 4-6 drops of lavender essential oil, stir then bottle, I’ve found little travel sized jars that I think work perfectly. Check the travel section at your local market.
– Scrub and enjoy!
2. Lemon Scrub Ingredients: sugar, olive oil, coconut butter, lemon peel
2 1/2 cups granulated sugar; divided
1/4 cup coconut oil (almond oil will also work)
1 lemon or lemon natural oils
I think I might be able to write this post in my sleep. I love body scrubs and I’ve been making my own body scrubs for years. They’re incredibly easy to make, luscious to enjoy and organic.
I could almost pinpoint the exact day when I started making my own body scrubs: it was the day that I ran out of an earlier favourite body scrub, only to learn that the boutique that sold the scrub (and now couldn’t live without) had closed — the owner had shut her doors and travelled back to Thailand, along with her spa that she had had here in Stockholm with hand made products.
Scrubs make me think of friendship, too …
We all know that best friends give the best advise and it was my oldest and dearest friend in Sweden who, introduced me to this boutique’s scrub. Like so many good things introduced by friends: after she tried her first body scrub samplings, she ran out, bought me the same to try, drove straight to my house with it, saying that I wouldn’t believe how soft this made my skin and that I’d never have to use body lotion again. Hooked. Completely hooked. She was right. Again! Devastated to lose this source, I found a solution that I’m thrilled with. (on the other hand, nothing in life is arrow straight:… I now have this amazing scrub but, my dear friend moved far, far, away in the past year —- irreplaceable — but that’s another story…!)
In the spirit of friendships like this, sharing how to make a body scrub with you, today, is like sharing friendship! I hope that you make this body scrub, give it to a friend, think of a friend or family member — or, this time of the year: give it to a teacher. I’m so happy to meet you here today. Wishing one wonderful, willowday, day!
Yes, around here, creating usually involves one, two or several family members. The kids don’t need scrubs but, our daughter loves to make these with me and I catch her often with her nose in the jar. You don’t have to grow lavender to make these, either, but we do have a little and I always bring it back from Provence. Our garden this year is not a show piece, but, last year, our lavender and roses were so abundant that she and I tried to make our own infused oils. Come to think of it, I’m not sure what happened to our experiment but, we had a lot of fun getting started and if you wanted to take on a big experiment, making flower infused oils, I’d love to hear how that goes for you! If I remember right, we were a little impatient. We’d take tips.
If giving these as gifts, you might want to make labels or just wrap with a ribbon. The colours of these scrubs are already beautiful and I find that less is more, when wrapping these up for gift giving.
