Leaf Jump Rope
This Summer, we made these Leaf Garlands and Leaf Jump Ropes for Gray’s Camp Grayson birthday (click here). In tones of red, orange and gold: wouldn’t these be tailor-made for a Harvest party? I would love to have one this year.
String leaf garlands between trees, over your party table (bonfire, tutorial here) or make a trellis of it around your birthday boy or girl. Have you ever tried, “leaf limbo” or jumping rope with a leaf jump rope? The kids came up with these ideas and they worked great! Add pressed leaves in food display. Make pine cone name cards and gift tags (click here). (The images of the kids with the leaf limbo and jump roping made me feel pure: Elsa Beskow, click here.)
TUTORIAL IMAGES:left: see the stitches right: note how the leaves are layered and stitched.
SUPPLIES:Leaves
Needle and Thread
ScissorsTUTORIAL:1) Estimate your desired length. If planning for a garland to go over a table, count in the swags. 2) Now, using this length, thread a long piece of durable thread and overlap leaves (see above photo). 3) Make one or two stitches (see above) through the center of the top leaf and down through the bottom leaf. Knot. 4) Overlap the next leaf and continue. 5) Continue until reaching desired length. Knot the end of the string and enjoy! These are best made the day of the event, unless you’ve pressed the leafs ahead of time. If the leaves have been pressed, they will keep long but, are fragile and should then only be used for decoration (not jumping or limbo.)SOMETHING YOU MIGHT LIKE:
