Ornament No. 4 | Shadow Puppet Ornaments

Make your own, Shadow Box Ornaments,this year. Tree trimming is, in itself, if a bit of an event or theatre. We take out all of our ornaments that are new, old, and handmade, every year. Each ornament that makes the tree, has a story. My Grandmother gave us a new ornament every year. Now, my mother does the same with our kids. Shadow Box Ornamentsare an idea that I can’t get into your hands quick enough.

Shadow Box Ornaments

As a little kid, I loved to lay under the tree and look up through the branches with their glitter andlights and ornaments. As a way to capture that magic that’s centred around a tree, I thought of this idea: make your very ownShadow Box Ornamentswith your kids this year. These work anywhere, actually and could just be a very, fun, winter project to make withyour kids for them to have in their bedrooms or in a special window in their house.

Shadow Box Ornaments | Materials:Match Box, Scisssors, Xacto Knife, Double-sided tape, transparent paper, coloured paper, black paper, pencil, glue gun, popsicle stick or similar, items to decorate with: paints, color pencils, sticker or similar, ribbon.

How to make aShadow Box Ornament:

Step one: Cut Paper to wrap around the match box

Step two: With pencil, sketch window for front

Step three: Sketch window for backside, as well.

Step four: Cut Shadow puppet from black paper and attach.

Step five: Cut hole for shadow puppet to fit through. Cut holes on top for ribbon.

Step six: Slide shadow puppet on stick into place and attach ribbon, with ties on the inside of the box.

Step seven: Using double sided tape or glue cut transparent paper the same size as the “front stage window” and press into place.

Step eight: Decorate the outside of this wrapping.

Step nine: Remove inside tray from match stick box. Wrap the paper wrappings around the box and attach using double sided tape or glue gun.
