Secret Agent Spy Party Labyrinth
Labyrinth Making from our SECRET AGENT SPY PARTY (click here) Thank you birthday lovers! We’re thrilled that you’ve found us! Are you considering adding a Labyrinth to a party or to a rainy day, too?
It was so much fun to share our Secret Agent Spy Party with you. I am happy to finally get the chance to respond to questions about tips for making your own labyrinth. I hope you get the chance to make one for a party or even for a rainy day. I’d love to hear from you with any questions or comments! Have fun!
Let’s get started:
SUPPLIES:
Red Yarn
Masking Tape
Scissors
1 long hallway, corridor or walk way
Things to think about:1. Taping: Use a criss-cross of masking tape to hold the yarn on to the wall. The yarn should be taut but not too tight. This is important because if the yarn is pulled too tightly will easily pull away away from the wall and dislodge the tape. We had 20+ children doing this for an afternoon and it never came off. You want the yarn to look taut but still have a little give.
2. Distance between beams: Our course was designed for kids between the ages of 5 – 9. Due to this I taped the beams at 1 – 2 foot intervals. A good rule of thumb: the younger the children, the wider the interval between the beams.
3. Beam Height: Vary the height of the yarn beams. By varying the height, the flow of the game will be more exciting. I wanted to avoid a hole in our planning that would allow one of the party goers to scoot their way under the course the full labyrinth; however, an area to scoot is fun — just not the entire maze. This was achieved by varying the height: in some places it was only 2 inches from the ground and in others several feet. Variation is key.
Think big and have fun!
