DIY Secret Storage Books

Don’t tell anyone: make this ultimate hiding place for small treasures! Make your own DIY Secret Storage Books.
DIY Secret Storage Books combine  fun trickery + also re-cycling. As a kid, I dreamed of having somewhere to hide my treasures. Did you? I was thrilled when the kids came to me with the idea over our recent Autumn Break. They’re amazingly easy, work with any hard covered, thick book and were put to use immediately!
In fact, I’m wondering if this might not make a great present for a teacher or relative. They’re a great way to re-cycle an old damaged classic. If you’d have creatives looking for more, why not paint or collage the cover? This is also a great independent project for older kids but, a functional and fun project for any age, with help.

  • 1. Begin by opening the book and folding back about 5 – 10 of the first pages.  Once you’ve done this, you are now creating the “book opening.” On the right hand page, using your straight edge (ruler) mark a rectangle that will serve as the cutting guide for the inner hidden storage area. Cut as deep and wide as the book allows.  It is best to leave an approximately 1 inch boarder along the top, bottom and sides.
  • 2. Once the guide has been marked, carefully cut the pages out of the book and remove this interior pages.
  • 3. Mix glue with water in a 1/3 glue to 2/3’s water solution or as desired.
