The Process of my Original Floral Art

Hi, I’m Gina, the artist and creator behind Willowday.

Whether I’m foraging in my Swedish neighborhood, nestled between city and sea, or in my own garden, I find my treasures on morning walks along the shore, in wildflower fields, and within flower beds at home. Each piece of foliage or petal feels like an artifact from an “Alice in Wonderland” adventure, chosen carefully for its unique tone and texture. I like to create unexpected beauty that you can find in the world around you Curiosity guides me as I collect hydrangea petals for eyes, twigs for cheekbones, and marvel at the resilience of flora, even in our dark Scandinavian winters.

How did I start working with this medium?

My inspiration began with nature walks with my own children: they would be sparked by joy as we would walk and gather: filling their pockets with leaves and petals during our nature explorations. We’d come home to create little scenes around the dining table, and over time, as an artist: I felt compelled to push these creations further, letting them blossom into the near ephemeral art form I continue to nurture today.

Creating

Each piece I create is a delicate balancing act. Without adhesives, I place every petal, leaf, or seed with precision, striving to capture an organic harmony. I work meticulously, ensuring that even the smallest breath doesn’t disturb my fragile arrangements, as a single breeze could scatter my work. Once a piece is complete, I photograph it professionally to preserve its transient beauty.

Harmony with Nature
In keeping with my connection to the earth, I return the gathered materials back to nature, sometimes saving a few petals for future creations. As I work, I witness the subtle changes in the petals—milky white petals might yellow, brown, or transform in structure as time passes, adding another layer of wonder to the art.

Archival Quality Prints

The photographs are then printed on museum-quality, archival paper, capturing the vibrancy and detail of each ephemeral creation. These prints preserve the delicate quality of my work far beyond what nature allows, creating a lasting, three-dimensional effect that brings life and movement to any space. | SHOP PETAL ART | HERE
