Heart-Shaped Pompoms for Ice Skates

Heart-Shaped Pompoms for Ice Skates

Willow Wishes!

Pompoms for the people! Whether your incentive is for Valentine’s Day or just because, I love these Heart-Shaped Pompoms for Ice Skates and can’t wait to spread them to you. And to you friends! “Pompoms for the people, friends.”

Materials: Yarn, Scissors, Bell (optional), Skates.

HOW TO:

  • Attach to skates

I like making fast and easy pompoms that we can make with no extra elements; but, use the pompom making technique that’s best for you!  I make pompoms by:

  1. Wrapping yarn around 3 fingers. 80 times.
  2. Cut about 1 foot of yarn and tie off the middle.
  3. Shape into Heart Shape.
  4. Add Bells (Optional: like these) and Attach to skates.
(Links above 1. HOW TO MAKE A POMPOM and 2. HOW TO MAKE A HEART SHAPED POMPOM.)

Pompoms seem to be popping up everywhere: my daughter has them on pillows, on baskets, blankets and on slippers: but, as I recently took a skate around our local pond, I didn’t see them on the ice. I grew up with the a pair of light blue pompoms that had a silver bell.  I can remember absolutely everything about them: how much they weighed, how soft they were and the shimmering blue tones. These are the small memories I just love to imagine are layed anytime I make or add something like these for my kids.

A few years ago, I threw a “Let’s Skate. 8 is great”-birthday party for our daughter and made Pompoms for all of her friends skates. We had a ball planning it and it was really a hit of a party.  This Valentine Version happened in an ah -ha moment, when I laid my eyes on some Heart-shaped Pompoms that I had attached to a basket in my dining room. Voila! Perfect for Valentine’s Day!*

These brightly colored heart-shaped pompoms are perfectly paired with brightly coloured cheeks and racing hearts when skating. I loved these from my childhood and still love them, today.  They’re so easy to add. Make these Heart-Shaped Pompoms for your Ice Skates in one sitting. Make these for yourself, for your kids or to give away as a Valentine’s Gifts, this year!

(*If you’re an under ten, friend of the family, act surprised when you receive yours in the mail this year. And, on that note: if you are a kid who’s reading my blog, I feel like I could send YOU fan mail! Seriously and I’m just thrilled when I hear from parents who tell me that their kids are here, too.  I still love pictures and written steps although I feel like kids are really moving to  youtube and video for instruction? Do you wish I’d add video? Is there something else that you wish for, with kids, instructions? )

Happy Pompom Day. I hope you’ve enjoyed this idea and would love to see them if you make them or if you share this tutorial with a friend! It’s easy to share these with me on  INSTAGRAM and  FACEBOOK. I wish you a very happy Willowday.
