Are you preparing Easter Eggs? We’re getting ready for a super, fun, weekend ahead that’s bringing a lot of luxury and festivity. These eggs feel so exquisite and like the perfect eggs to make this year. These eggs are so beautiful that you’ll feel like a maestro! Lacquer. Layering. Lovely!
Last weekend, as I was running family errands, bowls of beautiful Nail Lacquers kept catching our eye. How to choose, there are so many colours and do you wear these magnificent shades? I wear color with longevity which means classic shades but, these colours are so incredibly beautiful that I was determined to find a home for these pastels. Since it’s Spring, using these for Easter Eggs came to mind. I’ve marblized paper and things, but, had never used this technique with eggs. The kids and I had so much fun with these and hope you do, too.
Let’s get started:

Materials:1 Plastic Cup*, Water, Finger Nail Lacquer in multiple colors, Toothpicks, Wooden Skewer, Eggs (Boiled or Hollowed) Egg Carton, Plastic Gloves

(*recycled plastic containers work well, too)

How to Make Marbled Nail Polish Eggs:
Start by filling the cup or plastic container with water.

Gently pour the Nail Lacquer into the cup.
From experience, it we were able to maintain the best color surface by pouring very slowly. If we poured quickly, the polish would occasionally clump and fall to the bottom; becoming unusable.
23
Add one color at a time, covering the surface.
This is a place for experimentation.
Heavy Coverage:
If the water surface is covered heavily in Nail Lacquer, the you will have a very dense covering.
Continue to the next step.
 or
Subtle Coverage:
Use only one color (amp a delicate effect up by using only a light color) and leave water surface showing and continue to the next step.
Marble:
Once you’ve used the desired amount of Nail Lacquer, it’s time to create the marble effect.
This is done by taking a toothpick or nail brush and slowly drawing a line, like a zig-zag, through the surface color. Use a fluid, flowing, motion and continue in the same direction.

Once the marbling has been achieved, it is time to dip the egg.
Use gloves and now, dip the egg with your finger tips or place it on a wooden skewer.
20
Slowly dip or twist the egg around to cover it.
Note: We’ve used both technqiues. Slowly turn wooden skewer and then, “fish” the egg out by always keeping the egg on the skewer.  There is no way to avoid getting dirty fingers, even if you use this technique and it’s a lot of fun for kids to plunge their fingers into the bowls; Just use fingernail polish to remove the nail lacquer afterwards.

When eggs have been coated, remove them from the solution.
Give them a little shake to shed some water but, a few water droplets will remain. Don’t worry, these will evaporate in the drying process.
Rest the eggs, elevated edges of egg cartons or press the wooden skewers into the egg carton and let the eggs dry in the air.
Let Dry.
Enjoy

Since we used hollowed Eggs, these are an Easter Project that will have Nine-Lives and you can bring them out every year (like these these) .   If you are making these with small children, I would recommend using a low, wide, plastic container; like a Greek Yogurt Container for example. Gloves and a well-covered work surface are important but, these are really a fantastic experiment — addictive, actually!
Happy Creating and, as always, I’d love to see what you do with this tutorial!
