Make simple, one-of-a-kind, Flower Crowns

Make super, simple, Flower Crowns — classic or with a fun, new, twist!

Saying hello to you, in August, with flowers feels like a fitting way to jump back in.  Today, make simple, one-of-a-kind, Flower Crowns with us.  I can’t wait to see what you do with these, too!

Through rain and shine; inter-continental travels, we’ve been making flower crowns all summer long: classics and a new twist. Make sturdy classic Floral Crowns OR add a new twist, to make these princess-y, triple-pointed-floral crowns (top.)

These floral wreaths have passed test after test for dancing, skipping… and even, puddle jumping!

We started the summer with classic wreaths and a rainy day flower party after our kid-team scoured our lawn and neighbourhood for both wild and garden flowers including ferns, birch branches and even unknown blooms from trees. You can use whatever foliage is available to you: daisies, dandelions and … daffodils (and more!) They all work and this technique is one for any and all.

Let’s get started:
PART 1: Make Floral Wreaths:

Materials:
flowers, floral wire, wire cutter

HOW TO MAKE Floral Wreaths:

 
1. Collect flowers and loosely choose the flowers that you would like to use in your crown.
2. Cut floral wire, place the head of one flower on the stem of the next and wrap the area where these two flowers overlap.
3. Continue binding the flowers together with floral wire, in this way: adding one flower, then the next —  until you reach the desired length.
4. Bind the ends with floral wire and you are finished!

If you feel any weakness in the crown, wrap this area with additional floral wire as reinforcement.

PART 2: 
HOW TO MAKE A 3-POINT FLORAL CROWN:

Follow 1-3, as above.
Once you have the floral garland created, proceed:

– Estimate garland to be the length of a crown plus enough to add 3 v-shaped dips.
– Twist  3 v’s into the middle of the floral garland.
– We added extra flowers to the tops of these v-points.
– To add these, we cut and bound these contrasting flowers, with floral wire, to the tops of these points.

– Once you’re satisfied,  fasten the base into the crown.
– Bind the ends with floral wire to create complete.

Oh, summer, summer, happy summer! It’s been such a lovely, luscious one. I hope everything is wonderful with you, too.  It’s been too long since we’ve had the chance to meet but, I hope you’ve been able to peruse past projects.

From the moment, I first laid eyes on our kids, I’ve been addicted to every thing about them. As they grow, more quickly than flowers — and with summer bringing us together with our extended families who live too far, far,  away — I decided that this summer I needed to close my computer and unplug and to enjoy their sunshine. Sharing this projects feels like a wonderful way to start easing back. We have so many summer projects that we can’t wait to share.
